The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rains in the state of Thiruvananthapuram for the next five days, with orange and yellow alerts announced in various districts.
According to the department, Idukki district is on orange alert today and there is a chance of heavy rain at isolated places. It has been warned that 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain will be received in these places within 24 hours.
The following districts are under yellow alert:
– 05-01-2024: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam.
– 06-01-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta.
– 07-01-2024: Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad.
The public has been instructed to cooperate with the warnings and instructions of the authorities in the event of heavy rain, and people living in danger zones have been advised to be careful and prepared to evacuate if necessary.
Residents of unsecured homes and those living in homes with weak roofs should also be prepared to evacuate based on the warnings in the coming days.
Trees, posts, and boards in danger should be secured, and residents living downstream of the dams are urged to make preparations in case of water overflow and evacuate if necessary.
Additionally, night travel to hilly areas should be avoided and precautions should be taken for the dangers of trees falling down and posts collapsing in the wind.
The State Disaster Management Authority has provided resources and information on how to make preparations in the districts where orange and yellow alerts have been announced. The public has been advised to check the Disaster Management Authority’s Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.
The Central Meteorological Department has also warned that alerts may change and advises the public to stay updated on any changes to warnings.
