Amid growing scrutiny over alleged financial improprieties, actor Kim Seon-ho’s agency, Fantagio, issued a detailed statement on Thursday, outlining the establishment and subsequent dissolution of a one-person corporation linked to the star. The agency maintains that all financial dealings are now being conducted transparently and in full compliance with relevant regulations.
Initial Controversy and Allegations
The controversy surrounding Kim Seon-ho erupted on Monday with reports suggesting the operation of a “paper company” potentially used for tax evasion. Further fueling speculation was the revelation that he had established and operated a performance planning company with his parents listed as executives, registered at his Seoul residence in Yongsan-gu.
Fantagio’s Detailed Explanation
According to a release from Fantagio, Kim Seon-ho established the corporation in January 2024 to manage his acting activities and theater productions. Settlement payments for his work were initially channeled through the corporation until the commencement of a new contract with Fantagio in February 2025.
“After the establishment of the corporation in January 2024, settlement payments were made to the corporation for activities until the start of a new contract with Fantagio in February 2025,” a company release stated.
Recognizing potential issues with the corporate structure, Kim Seon-ho proactively ceased operations, with the corporation remaining largely inactive for over a year. “After Kim Seon-ho recognized that the operation of the corporation itself could be misleading, the corporation ceased operation and virtually no activities through the corporation were carried out for more than a year,” the agency explained.
Direct Payments and Severed Ties
Fantagio emphasized a clear separation between the corporation and the actor’s current contractual obligations. Since February 2025, all payments to Kim Seon-ho have been made directly, bypassing the corporation entirely.
“Fantagio and Kim Seon-ho have been paying payments directly to individual actors from the date of signing the exclusive contract in February 2025 to the present,” the agency affirmed. “Regarding the contract process and activities between Fantagio and Kim Seon-ho, we clearly state that we have no relationship with that corporation.”
Proactive Measures and Tax Compliance
In a preemptive move to address any concerns, Kim Seon-ho voluntarily returned all records of past corporate card usage, family salaries paid through the corporation, and corporate vehicles. Furthermore, he paid additional personal income tax on amounts previously settled through the corporation, supplementing the initial corporate tax payments. The corporation is currently undergoing the process of formal closure, with administrative procedures expected to be completed shortly.
Apology and Future Oversight
Fantagio concluded with an apology, acknowledging Kim Seon-ho’s regret over establishing and maintaining the corporation without a thorough understanding of its operational implications.
“Actor Kim Seon-ho is deeply reflecting on establishing the corporation and maintaining it for over a year without sufficient understanding of corporate operations. I bow my head and apologize,” the statement read.
The agency also pledged increased oversight of its actors’ financial activities to prevent similar situations in the future. “We also apologize for causing confusion and concern, and we will do our best to manage the overall activities of our actors more closely from now on.”
Fantagio stated they will continue to fully cooperate with all relevant laws and procedures, aiming to ensure Kim Seon-ho’s career can continue without further misunderstanding.
