Magna International CEO Urges Graduates to ‘Leave it Better’ at KLE Tech Convocation

A total of 2,466 students received their degrees at the seventh convocation ceremony of KLE Technological University (KLE Tech) in Hubballi on Saturday, with Magna International CEO Seetarama (Swamy) Kotagiri delivering a powerful message of perseverance and societal responsibility. The ceremony celebrated academic achievement and offered guidance to the graduating class as they embark on their professional journeys.
Inspiring Journey from Small Towns to Global Leadership
Kotagiri, the chief guest at the event, captivated the audience with his personal story, detailing his rise from a modest upbringing in the small towns of Aswaraopeta and Shahabad to the helm of a global organization. He emphasized that effort serves as a great equalizer, offering opportunities regardless of background.
“He inspired the graduating students by sharing his journey…and explained how these experiences led him to adopt a structured plan for personal, professional, family, and societal goals,” according to reports from the ceremony. Kotagiri underscored the importance of core values such as integrity, hard work, courage, and gratitude, encouraging students to embrace ambitious dreams.
Academic Excellence Recognized with Prestigious Awards
The convocation saw the presentation of a total of 21 gold medals – 15 in undergraduate programs and 6 in postgraduate programs. Female students distinguished themselves, securing 12 of the gold medals, while male students received 9. In addition, 15 silver medals were awarded at the undergraduate level and 7 at the postgraduate level, with 13 female and 9 male students recognized.
Shrivatsa Sudhindra Bhavikatti, a student from the department of civil engineering, was a standout achiever, receiving two gold medals, including the prestigious Dr SS Bhavikatti Gold Medal.
A Call to Action: ‘Leave it Better Than You Found It’
Kotagiri’s central message resonated with the graduating class: a call to action to actively improve the world around them. He urged the students to live by the principle of “leave it better than you found it,” emphasizing a commitment to positive change and societal contribution.

Prabhakar Kore, chairman of KLE Society, Belagavi, joined Kotagiri in presenting the degrees. Prof Ashok Shettar, Pro-chancellor, and Prof Prakash Tewari, Vice-chancellor, were also in attendance. The ceremony formally concluded with a declaration by Chancellor Dr Prabhakar Kore, marking the official close of the convocation proceedings and celebrating the accomplishments of the graduating class, alongside faculty, deans, and proud families.
