Between 2023 and 2027, 900 million euros will be invested in the Guiana Space Center in Kourou.

The proliferation of new space bases around the world raises questions about the future of historical launch pads, heirs to the space conquest of the 1950s and 1960s. This is the case of the Guiana Space Center (CSG) in Kourou, inaugurated in 1968, which has established itself as the port of Europe in this area and is the guarantor of its independent access to space. Also, the giant site of 660 km2 is being completely overhauled.

Between 2023 and 2027, 900 million euros will be invested in it, one-third financed by the Cnes (National Center for Space Studies) and the balance by the 22 member states of the European Space Agency (ESA). Objective? Modernize, gain in competitiveness and increase launch rates, but also accommodate micro- and mini-launchers.
