KPK Arrests Depok Court Officials in Sweeping Corruption Sting

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained three officials from the Depok District Court in a dramatic sting operation on Thursday evening, February 5, 2026, signaling a major escalation in the fight against judicial corruption. The arrests, which included the deputy chairman, chairman, and a bailiff, have sent shockwaves through Indonesia’s legal system.

The operation unfolded swiftly, prompting an immediate response from the Chairman of the Bandung High Court, Hery Supriyono, who visited the Depok District Court office shortly after the arrests. “The information I received was that those arrested were the deputy, chairman and bailiff,” Supriyono told journalists on Friday, February 6, 2026. He acknowledged uncertainty regarding the specific details of the case and the location of the arrests, but emphasized the gravity of the situation.

Supriyono stated his presence at the court was intended as a reminder to all personnel to resist the temptation of engaging in illicit transactional practices. “Currently, my presence at the Depok District Court is to remind all ranks not to be tempted by transactional services,” he explained. He further noted that both the Bandung High Court and the Supreme Court are deeply concerned by the unfolding events. “We have to accept it and now it is in the legal process, so we will hand everything over to the authorities who have the authority for this,” he added.

The KPK’s investigation revealed a significant sum of money was confiscated during the operation. According to KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto, “There are hundreds of millions” of rupiah involved. Rohcahyanto confirmed the operation specifically targeted judges at the Depok District Court.

Preliminary findings indicate a transfer of funds from private individuals to law enforcement officials. “There is a certain amount of money that has moved from the private sector to law enforcement officials,” stated Acting Deputy for Corruption Eradication and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu. When pressed about the involvement of the Deputy Chair of the Depok District Court, Bambang Setyawan, Rahayu indicated confirmation was forthcoming. “The details will be tomorrow, but in general it’s like that,” he said.

The arrests underscore the ongoing challenges facing Indonesia in its efforts to combat corruption within its judicial branch. The KPK’s continued vigilance and proactive measures, such as this OTT (Operasi Tangkap Tangan, or “hand-catching operation”), are crucial in maintaining public trust and upholding the rule of law. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released in the coming days.
