Manama> Kuwait to deport 30,000 expatriates including more than eight thousand Indians in 2022. According to the Ministry of Interior, these expatriates were deported for various violations of laws such as drug use, beatings, theft, manufacturing fake alcohol, overstaying their visas, and not following Kuwaiti laws.

Last year, 17,000 men and 13,000 women were deported. 6,400 of the men are Indians. Also, 3,500 Bangladeshis and 3,000 Egyptians are included. 1,700 of the women are Indians. Among the women were 3,000 Filipinas, 2,000 Sri Lankans and 1,400 Ethiopians. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Home Affairs will work in coordination to cancel the permits of expatriates undergoing treatment in mental hospitals and deport them.

The parliamentary committee had requested this. The Ministry of Health has prepared a list of expatriates undergoing treatment in psychiatric hospitals and classified them according to the severity of their illness. People with chronic mental illnesses will be deported. Most of the 9,272 expatriates in the mental health hospital have driving licenses. The ministry is also concerned that it increases the risk of accidents to motorists and pedestrians. In addition, the number of drug prescriptions issued to expatriates has exceeded 15,000 in the past five years.

Interior Ministry sources told a local newspaper that it is the country’s right to deport mentally ill people. It also said that the Home Ministry can issue a law to deport them without the need for legislation from Parliament if they are found to be doing harm to the country.
