Scandal judgment in Kuwait!

In the Islamic country, a court has one Transgender woman Sentenced to two years in prison. The human rights organization Human Rights Watch announced on Thursday.

The judgment was based on the fact that Maha al-Mutairi (40) had “imitated the opposite sex” during telephone calls.

Human Rights Watch sees the ruling as a violation of international law and demands: “The authorities should release you immediately and overturn the conviction.”

The defendant should also pay a fine of the equivalent of 2850 euros. This alleged imitation of the opposite sex is prohibited under Kuwaiti law. According to Human Rights Watch, transgender women are often exposed to police abuse while in detention.

Al-Mutairi himself reported rape in prison after earlier arrests. There she was “groped and sexually assaulted by police officers,” she said in one Video.

According to her lawyer, al-Mutairi’s previous five arrests were on similar grounds. However, the most recent condemnation is by far the harshest, according to defender Ibtissam al-Enesi. An appeal hearing was scheduled for October 31.

Al-Mutairi applied to be sent to a prison for women, according to her lawyer. She was initially placed in a cell for transgender inmates in a men’s prison.
