The new season at the Milan theater “La Scala”, despite the protests, will open with the opera “Boris Godunov” by the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. This was confirmed in a message distributed by the theater management. Earlier, the Consul General of Ukraine in Milan, Andriy Kartysh, called for the cancellation of the premiere.

The theater also specified that artists from the Mariinsky Theater would take part in the opera. And the well-known Russian opera singer Ildar Abdrazakov will perform the role of Boris Godunov. At the conductor’s stand will be the chief conductor of “La Scala” Riccardo Chailly.

The choice of the opera “Boris Godunov” for the opening of the season was first announced by the theater manager Domenic Meyer in June. He repeatedly spoke out against the rejection of operas by Russian composers.

“Boris Godunov” had previously opened the season. In 1979, a production by Russian director Yuri Lyubimov was chosen as the premiere.
