Lachie Neale & Jules Neale: Instagram Drama Explained

by Priyanka Patel

Brisbane Lions captain Lachie Neale’s wife, Jules Neale, publicly suggested her marriage has ended, igniting a firestorm in the Australian Football League (AFL) world on Friday, May 17, 2024.

A Public Unraveling

The influencer and hairstylist accused someone of a devastating betrayal, prompting speculation about the future of her relationship with the two-time Brownlow Medal winner.

  • Jules Neale posted on Instagram stating she had been “betrayed in the most unimaginable way.”
  • She subsequently deleted a comment directed at a friend, telling her to “take these (pictures) down you idiot you’re embarrassing yourself.”
  • Neither Lachie Neale nor his representatives have publicly commented on the situation.

Jules, 35, responded to reports that the couple was “working through” private issues with a blunt Instagram post. “I want to make it very clear that I am not ‘working through’ anything,” she wrote. “I have been betrayed in the most unimaginable way. All I can do now is to heal and do what’s best for my children. Thank you for the love and support. Jules x.”

The drama escalated on Saturday, May 18, 2024, when reports surfaced of a deleted comment Jules made on a friend’s social media post. The comment reportedly read, “Take these (pictures) down you idiot you’re embarrassing yourself.”

Jules no longer follows the friend or her husband on Instagram, adding another layer to the unfolding situation. The rumor mill has been working overtime since her initial post on Friday.

A Family at the Center

Lachie Neale, the Brisbane Lions organization, and Neale’s manager have all remained silent on the matter. The couple shares two children: four-year-old Piper and a son, Freddie, born in December 2024.

Jules recently celebrated Freddie’s first birthday with photos shared on Instagram, notably absent of Lachie. He hasn’t appeared in any of her Instagram posts dating back to 2012. Her birthday post for Freddie read, “Turning 1 today. This little man, and his beautiful big sister have taught me what real love, courage, and joy look like. You’re the sweetest soul Freddie bear. Thank you for choosing me, for holding me up without even knowing it. I’m so lucky to be your mumma and I love you beyond words x.”

Just in April 2024, Jules described their marriage as “solid” in an interview with The Sunday Mail. “Every relationship has different pressures, it’s important to keep the outside noise out… I think Lachie and I have a really solid relationship, which is all that really matters.”

Past Challenges and Recent Success

Jules has cultivated a significant following, boasting 27,000 Instagram followers as a lifestyle influencer, hairstylist, and a familiar face on the Brownlow Medal red carpet. The couple appeared united on the red carpet in September 2023 and at the Brisbane Lions’ Club Champion awards night in October 2023.

Their relationship has faced scrutiny before. In 2021, social media users blamed Jules for a potential trade that would have sent Lachie back to Fremantle. Reports suggested Lachie considered a move to Western Australia to be closer to Jules’ family as they prepared to welcome Piper Rose.

At the time, Lachie defended Jules, stating, “It was disappointing maybe my character and Jules’ character got questioned… I think I got called a manipulator and people were saying I was doing it for money, which certainly wasn’t the case.” He added, “We had camera people outside our house for three or four days… Jules was getting messages from randoms, which was pretty vile.”

Despite personal challenges, Lachie Neale enjoyed a successful year on the field. He battled a foot injury leading up to the Brisbane Lions’ grand final victory over Geelong in 2024, even contributing a crucial goal as a substitute. The Lions are favored to contend for a third consecutive premiership in 2026. He previously won the Brownlow Medal in 2020 and 2023.
