Lambán attacks the “Catalan” Pau Gasol for blaming him for the failure of the joint candidacy for the Winter Olympics

The president of Aragón, Javier Lambán, urged Pau Gasol to inform himself better and not take it for granted that the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) obeys “strict sporting criteria” given that in the case of the unsuccessful joint candidacy with Catalonia for the 2030 Winter Olympics It has been, he asserts, a “ally of independence”.

This is what Lambán points out on his Twitter account in response to the statements made this Wednesday by the former basketball player and member of the Athletes Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who has supported the decision of the COE to withdraw the Spanish candidacy for hosting the 2030 Winter Games, a project that, in his opinion, it has been politicized.

Speaking to Efe coinciding with the presentation of the ‘Pau Gasol Academy by Santander’, the ex-sportsman lamented “the differences” with the Government of Aragon which, according to what he pointed out, have prevented the candidacy from advancing.

“In the end, when you present a joint, union candidacy, which has a clear message and that union is not reflected from the presidency of Aragon, differences are created and a candidacy is politicized, (it) falls,” he said.

Gasol praised the final decision of the Spanish Olympic Committee: “It seems to me a very wise decision of the COE, of Alejandro Blanco and of all the members in order to say: not like that, let’s see if we can do it in another way”.

Gasol’s statements come a day after the COE decided to withdraw the candidacy of the Pyrenees before the impossibility of putting Aragon and Catalonia in agreement to present a joint project.

President Lambán pointed out on the same social network that “for defending the interests of Aragon” he was receiving “an avalanche of insults and disqualifications of the president of the COE and of the independence movement”.

“The truth is that the Government of Aragon is the only one that sought an agreement until the last moment and will continue to do so in the face of 2034,” concludes the president of Aragon on Twitter.
