A devastating fire wholly consumed a farmhouse on Steinsholt in the Sør-East police district of Norway late Thursday night, resulting in a total loss for the homeowner.Emergency services responded to the scene shortly before midnight after being alerted by a concerned neighbor.
Rapidly Escalating Situation
Initial reports indicated a house fire and a vehicle also possibly catching fire on the property. Within approximately 30 minutes, the situation escalated dramatically, with authorities confirming a full over-ignition of the structure. Despite the rapid spread of flames,officials quickly determined there was no immediate threat to surrounding properties,as the farm was situated in an isolated location.
“There are probably no people inside the house,” authorities initially stated, adding that a subsequent check confirmed no individuals or animals remained on the premises.
Firefighters Unable to Intervene
Upon arrival, first responders found the house already fully engulfed in flames. A senior official explained that the fire brigade quickly assessed the situation and determined that attempting a rescue or suppression effort would have been too risky for their crews.
“The fire brigade’s assessment was that there was nothing to save. At the same time, it was not worth risking anything for the crews,” the official said. “That’s why the house is now burning up.”
Investigation Ongoing, Homeowner Safe
The homeowner was not present at the time the fire began, and the cause remains unknown. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the origin of the blaze, but currently have no information to share. The fire, reported shortly before midnight on Thursday, quickly spread throughout the wooden structure, fueled by dry conditions and potentially strong winds. The homeowner, whose name has not been released, was notified and is reportedly safe, though deeply affected by the loss.
“It’s just sad for the homeowner who has now lost everything he owns,” a police incident leader, identified as Sondre Dahl, told a freelance photographer on the scene.

Firefighters allowed the structure to burn completely due to the inherent dangers of the situation and the lack of salvageable materials.
