The professor will not reappear in front of his classes anytime soon. A teacher was accused in Le Havre of having displayed a knife in front of his students, while making worrying comments on October 21. After the incident, he was seen by the prevention doctor at the Normandy Academy on Wednesday. According to the suspect’s lawyer, the health professional indicated that “the teacher had been in great psychological suffering as a teacher for some time, with impacts on his physical health.”

The one who teaches history and geography was placed on long-term sick leave for one year, indicated Me Antoine Siffert. “Regarding the incident of October 21, the professor admits to having behaved inappropriately but formally denies having brandished or taken out the blade of any knife whatsoever,” specifies the council. The latter also questions “the support of teachers by the Ministry” of National Education.

The Le Havre public prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday that it had opened an investigation into “violence with the use or threat of a weapon”, after a report from the rectorate concerning the teacher. “For the moment, no complaint has been filed,” the prosecution indicated on Wednesday evening. The rectorate had indicated earlier that “an incident on Saturday October 21 morning gave rise to the interruption of a course and the immediate reception of the teacher by the management”, that he was received on Wednesday by a doctor and that a listening cell was opened for staff and students.

“The media coverage of this affair, on the basis of reported and unverified elements, is likely to (…) contribute to the insecurity of my client,” underlined Me Siffert.
