The course was immediately interrupted according to the rectorate and the teacher was placed on “long illness” leave for a period of one year, according to his lawyer, Antoine Siffert.

An investigation was opened and he was placed in police custody. At the end of this, he was placed under judicial supervision pending his trial, with an obligation of care, added Bruno Dieudonné, public prosecutor in Le Havre, confirming information from Paris Normandy.

Four students who witnessed the scene filed a complaint, the prosecution said. The trial is scheduled in Le Havre on March 29, 2024.

“Regarding the incident of October 21, the professor admits to having behaved inappropriately but formally denies having brandished or taken out the blade of any knife,” said his lawyer.

The prevention doctor at the Academy of Normandy, who examined him on Wednesday, indicated that “the teacher had been in great psychological suffering as a teacher for some time, with impacts on his physical health,” added Antoine Siffert.
