LG announces a smartphone camera with optical zoom and stabilization

by time news

LG Innotek has announced the LG Optical Zoom Camera, an optical telephoto camera module designed for use in smartphones. The first smartphones with the innovative module will be presented at the CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas in January 2023.

The design of the LG Optical Zoom Camera is said to be similar to that of classic cameras with interchangeable lenses. The novelty allows for an optical zoom of four to nine times through the use of movable lens elements. The design provides high speed movement and reliability with less battery consumption, and the lens movement accuracy is up to a micron.

The camera module is equipped with an integrated optical image stabilization system, but at the same time, LG Innotek engineers managed to minimize the size of the structure and reduce the thickness of the module. It is promised that smartphones with a new camera will be deprived of the usual convex part of the design in the camera area. The module is said to support the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip from Qualcomm.
