by time news

Thiruvananthapuram ∙ IG Gogulath Laxman, who was suspended following his relationship with Monsan Mavunkal, accused in the antiquities fraud case, has been reinstated. The action was withdrawn by a committee headed by Chief Secretary VP Joy. The crime branch had given a report that Laxman was not involved in the scam. The order says that Laxman is being reinstated as per the recommendations of the Suspension Review Committee.

Earlier, Laxman was suspended on November 10, 2021 based on the investigation report of Crime Branch ADGP S. Sreejith. The crime branch found that the IG continued his relationship with Monson despite taking a fraud case against him and tried to subvert the case against him. The suspension was initially for two months. It was later extended on the demand of time to complete the investigation.

Laxman, a 1997 batch IPS officer, was suspended while serving as IG in charge of social policing and traffic. Service till 2033. The crime branch had earlier discovered that the IG had helped Monsan Mawunkal. Even though many police officers, including former DGP Loknath Behra, were familiar with Monson, it was only against the IG that the devious deal was discovered.
