Ligue 1: Anthony Lopes suspended for three games after his expulsion against Ajaccio

by time news

His start to the season could hardly be worse. From the opening match of the 2022/2023 edition of Ligue 1, Anthony Lopes was punished with a red card. The Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) imposed a three-game suspension on Wednesday for his gross misconduct.

From the 27th minute of the match between OL and AC Ajaccio (2-1) last Friday, the Lyon goalkeeper was the author of a risky exit. Late on the opposing striker, the Portuguese violently hit Mounaïm El-Idrissy in the face. An uncontrolled intervention which therefore logically earned him a direct red card.

2nd career red card

Yet renowned for his risky outings, Anthony Lopes had received only one red card in his career before last Friday. He was sent off for the first time last year, in the derby against Saint-Étienne, for a hand outside the box.

He will therefore miss the matches of Olympique Lyonnais against Lorient on August 14, Troyes on August 19 and Reims on August 28. He should be replaced in the cages by veteran Rémy Riou. On the first day, the French goalkeeper, who arrived at the training center in 1995, played his first minutes as a pro in Lyon.

Also sent back to the locker room during OL-Ajaccio, Romain Hamouma will be suspended for the Corsican club’s match against Lens this Sunday. Another suspension recorded by the LFP on Wednesday, Lille’s Tiago Djalo will miss the reception of Paris Saint-Germain on August 21 at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium, he who received too many yellow cards.
