This is how Lima was chosen as the official venue for the 2027 Pan American Games
In January of this year, Panam Sports canceled Barranquilla as its official headquarters due to a series of non-compliance. After that, the cities that quickly applied to host the sporting event were two: Asunción, Paraguay and Lima, Peru.
That is why this morning at the JW Marriott Hotel in Miami the Executive Committee met with the representatives of the candidate cities of Lima and Asunción. The other participants, such as presidents or general secretaries of the National Olympic Committees, joined electronically via Zoom.
In this instance, each of the candidate cities had 40 minutes to make a presentation to the Panam Sports Assembly. In addition, there was time for questions and answers from the member countries of the organization.
In total there were 40 member countries that voted for each of the options, whose election process was carried out completely remotely.
Finally, Lima, capital of Peru, won the venue for the next Pan American Games with a total of 28 votes, thus winning against Asunción of Paraguay and obtaining for the second time the organization of the largest sporting event on the continent.
