Microsoft has decided to shut down its LinkedIn app in China, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a statement from the company.

The company decided to close the social network for business contacts after “faced with a much more difficult operating environment” in China. The company explained that it was under serious pressure from the Chinese authorities, which began to demand more careful compliance with the laws of the PRC. This was expressed in the removal of all kinds of content that criticized the actions of the country’s authorities. So, the social network had to block the accounts of many human rights defenders, scientists and journalists, since the content posted on them was considered illegal.

Microsoft will now launch a new app in China that will be deprived of all social media features. It will simply be an online job board.
