Lisa Marie Presley’s Cause of Death Revealed as Small Bowel Obstruction
An autopsy report obtained from the Los Angeles County medical examiner has revealed that Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death was a small bowel obstruction. Presley, the renowned singer-songwriter and the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, passed away on January 12 at the age of 54.
A small bowel obstruction refers to a blockage in the small intestine, and it can be caused by various factors such as colon cancer, certain medications, adhesions in the abdomen that form after surgery, and conditions like Crohn’s disease, as stated by the Mayo Clinic.
The medical examiner’s report further stated that Presley’s obstruction was a result of “adhesions that developed during bariatric surgery years ago. This is a known long-term complication of this type of surgery.”
While it is uncommon for individuals to die from a small bowel obstruction, as they often exhibit painful symptoms that prompt medical attention, Presley had complained of abdominal pain on the morning of her death, according to the autopsy.
Presley had been rushed to the hospital in January after suffering cardiac arrest at her residence in Calabasas, California, where she eventually passed away. Her tragic death follows the loss of her son, Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide in 2020.
A memorial service was held for Presley at Graceland, the former home of Elvis Presley and now a museum, where she was laid to rest beside her late son.
