The largest military maneuvers in the country over the past ten years, “Perkuno gryausmas” (“Perkunas’ Thunder”), involving 20 thousand military personnel of the army of the Baltic republic and NATO allies, began in Lithuania. Deputy Chief of the General Staff Colonel Zilvinas Gaubis told reporters about the scale of military training, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“The Perkuno Gryausmas exercise is the largest in the last decade. About 10 thousand Lithuanian military personnel and allied units of approximately the same number will take part in it,” he said.

More than 10 thousand people from the active reserve, that is, those who completed military service less than ten years ago, will receive summonses. This is considered a mobilization exercise that is part of the overall plan. Of these, 2.5 thousand people will actually be involved in the maneuvers.

“The purpose of the exercise is to practice the transition from peacetime conditions to military conditions,” Gaubis said.

The exercises will last until May 10.
