India is the largest democracy in the world. Voting for the country’s 18th Lok Sabha elections began on April 19. There will be a total of seven phases of voting in the country. Along with common people, Indian showbiz stars are also going to the polling stations to cast their votes.

Interestingly, the great hero of Indian Bengali cinema, Uttam Kumar, did not go to the center to vote. Rather, he used to vote in a special way. Actor Gaurav Chatterjee, grandson of Uttam Kumar, gave this information in an interview.

In an interview given to TV Nine, Gaurav Chatterjee said, ‘Thakurda Uttamkumar died long before I was born. I have not seen him with my own eyes. But heard many stories about him from father (Gautam Chatterjee) and others in the family. They told me that my grandmother did not go to the center to vote. He would vote at home and his vote would be filled in an envelope and submitted.’

Gaurav Chatterjee, explaining the reason for voting in the special system, said, ‘My grandmother did not go in front of people physically. People used to get agitated when they saw him in front of him. It was very crowded. The government took this decision to prevent chaos. The then government arranged voting at my grandmother’s house as there might be problems in crowd management at the polling station.’

Gautam Chatterjee is the only child of Uttam Kumar and Gauri Devi couple. He died of cancer at the age of 53. Gaurav Chatterjee, son of Gautam Chatterjee, is the only grandson of Uttam Kumar. Uttam Kumar left his family in 1963. He lived with popular actress Supriya Devi for 17 years till his death
