Utah Utes fall to Northwestern in Las Vegas Bowl
The Utah Utes fell short in the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday, losing to the Northwestern Wildcats with a final score of 14-7. The game came down to a dramatic final drive, with Utah’s Bryson Barnes’ pass being batted down on fourth-and-3, allowing Northwestern to secure the victory and run out the clock.
Although Utah was able to tie the game in the fourth quarter, a pair of big pass plays led to Northwestern’s game-winning drive late in the game. This loss brings Utah’s season record to 8-5 and marks their fifth straight bowl game defeat.
Throughout the game, both teams struggled to gain momentum, with neither team scoring in the first quarter. Utah’s offense struggled to get going, managing just 59 yards of total offense in the first half, while Barnes threw two interceptions, including one in the end zone.
Northwestern, on the other hand, had 198 yards of total offense and secured the only touchdown of the first half just before halftime.
Despite a goal-line stand from Utah’s defense and a touchdown from running back Micah Bernard, the Utes were unable to overcome Northwestern’s lead, resulting in a disappointing end to their season.
This loss marks a tough end to the Utes’ season, but Utah fans can take pride in their team’s resilience and determination throughout the year.
