Last year, they introduced a unique innovation to the market – they invite the people of the city to start caring for a beehive, get to know the world of bees and enjoy all the benefits of beekeeping without leaving home. Jolita, the host of “Avilios istorijai” agreed to tell about the unheard of idea.

Taking care of one hive means finding over 40,000 beehives at once. friends

According to Jolita, taking care of a beehive combines several ideas – honey subscription, education about honey, bees, patronage and animal care. The only difference is that not a single animal is cared for, but a large family of bees, in which there are over 40-50 thousand bees at the peak of the summer season. bees

“That’s why when we talk about bee hive care, we mention that finding 40 thousand making friends is very simple – you just have to start taking care of the beehive,” jokes Jolita.

This idea was born to a farmer in order to bring people back to what is real and natural. Especially since donating a beehive or taking care of a beehive yourself is a great contribution to the nurturing of the bee ecosystem, which gives you the opportunity to enjoy honey from your “own” hive. Taking care of the hives contributes to certified organic beekeeping, which, as the farmer says, is often misunderstood. It is important to mention that there are less than 30 organic apiaries with official documents in Lithuania.

“When talking about organic beekeeping, many think only about the final product – honey. But the real beauty of organic beekeeping lies in the details. For example, our bees are kept in wooden hives and do not come into contact with plastic. In winter, bee families are provided with honey and bee bread reserves. Queen bees do not have their wings clipped, so they are not harmed. When necessary, the bees are treated only with organic acids,” says the farmer about the exceptional care for bees.

According to the beekeeper, in order to nurture the traditions of organic beekeeping in “Hive Stories”, the bees are also kept close to nectar-producing plants, so that they do not have to expend energy flying in search of food. Natural diversity is encouraged in the apiary, so anthills are not destroyed, nectar-producing plants are purposefully sown.

“We take honey from the hive only when it is ripe, when the combs are covered with wax, and we release the bees to rest in traditional ways, using releases,” says the entrepreneur about the sustainable process.

For those who want to contribute to organic beekeeping, the best thing is that they will not have to wear beekeeping suits or go through beekeeping courses – the hives will be taken care of by professional beekeepers.

For the beehive care fee, they will not only take care of the well-being of the bee hive family under their care, create and share visual material with the beekeeper, how the bees in the hive are doing, but also extract and package the honey, which will be sent to the new owners of the hive.

The earliest honey is collected at the end of May or the beginning of June, depending on weather conditions, at least tens of kilograms of honey will arrive from one hive for its guardians.

It works both as a personal investment and as a business gift

Jolita says that not only people interested in beekeeping choose to take care of a beehive. Companies that tend to take care of beehives or give it as a gift are companies that give their business partner care of beehives with deep ideas and wishes that reflect their brand values or traditions. Bees are a symbol of friendship and harmony, and natural, high-quality honey is a material gift that contributes to improving the health of the team. Since a lot of honey is extracted from one hive, the guardians claim that there is no shortage of honey in the office all year round.

“The most important thing is that caring for beehives should be a conscious choice among those people who value naturalness and ecological principles,” says the interviewer.

According to the farmer, every beehive under care or awaiting care is located in the lush meadows of Šalčininkai district. Also, according to her, the beehives are named, so signs with the company name, logo or desired inscription are hung on them. Along with the start of care, the new beehive guardians are given a certificate with the first jar of honey in a wooden box.

“However, beehive keepers are usually happy not only with a solid amount of 10 kilograms of honey, but also share positive emotions every time they receive new visual material in which beekeepers tell how the bees are doing and how they live throughout the season.”

We also often share short stories from the life of bees via e-mail. Guardians often share these moments not only with the team, but also on their social networks. After all, this is a very nice contribution to fostering values, strengthening the team and ecology,” says Jolita.

According to the farmer, beehive care is still a novelty in Lithuania, but more and more people and companies are interested in it, who, not having the opportunity to care for insects themselves, choose an alternative – remote bee care. This is a non-standard, but unique and impressive gift, and maybe even a personal investment, inviting you to take care of small ecosystems.
