Easily use Gemini on your smartphone

We hear you want an easier way to access Gemini on your smartphone. That’s why today we’re starting to roll out a new app for Gemini and Gemini Advanced in the US Android and in the Google app on iOS.

With Gemini on your smartphone, you can type, speak, or add an image to get help on the go: for example, you can take a photo of your flat tire and ask for help, create a custom image for your dinner party invitations, or ask for help with Ask to compose a difficult text message. This is an important first step in building a true AI assistant – one that chats or speaks with you, is multimodal and helpful.

Android

On Android, Gemini is a new kind of assistant that uses generative AI to collaborate with you and help you complete tasks.

If you download the Gemini app or activate it through Google Assistant, you can access it through the app or in any other way you normally activate Google Assistant – for example, by pressing the power button on select smartphones or in swipe a corner or say “Hey Google.” This enables a new overlay experience that provides easy access to Gemini and contextual help right on your screen – for example, you can create a caption for a picture you just took or ask questions about an article you’re reading. Many Google Assistant voice features will be available through the Gemini app – including setting timers, making calls, and controlling your compatible smart home devices – and we’re working to support more in the future.
