Argument Over Trump Preceded Fatal Shooting of British Woman in Texas
A dispute regarding Donald Trump reportedly preceded the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old British woman at a home in Prosper, Texas, an inquest has revealed. The incident, which occurred on January 10, is currently under investigation at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in the United Kingdom.
Lucy Harrison, a fashion buyer from Warrington, Cheshire, was visiting her father, Kris Harrison, and his family in the Dallas suburb when she died. The inquest has begun to unravel the tragic circumstances surrounding her death, highlighting a fraught relationship and a volatile argument.
Holiday Turns Tragic
According to testimony given on Tuesday, Harrison and her boyfriend, Sam Littler, had traveled to the United States for a holiday to visit her father, who had relocated years prior. Littler told the court that Harrison frequently expressed discomfort with her father’s possession of a firearm.
The atmosphere reportedly deteriorated on the morning of January 10, the day the couple was scheduled to return to the UK. A “big” argument erupted between Harrison and her father concerning the then-incoming presidential administration of Donald Trump.
“Kris and Lucy ended up having quite a big argument which led to Lucy running upstairs and being upset,” Littler stated. The argument escalated when Harrison questioned her father about his perspective on sexual assault, asking, “How would you feel if I was the girl in that situation and I’d been sexually assaulted?”
Littler recounted that Harrison’s father responded by stating he had two other daughters and therefore would not be as affected.
The Shooting
Littler’s testimony continued, detailing the moments leading up to the shooting. He stated that approximately 30 minutes before their planned departure for the airport, Harrison was in the kitchen when her father led her by the hand into a ground-floor bedroom.
“About 15 seconds later he heard a loud bang and then heard Kris screaming for his wife, Heather,” Littler told the court. He immediately ran to the bedroom, finding Harrison lying on the floor near the bathroom entrance while her father was “just screaming, just sort of nonsense.”
A “Force of Life”
Harrison’s mother, Jane Coates, described her daughter as a vibrant and passionate individual. “She cared. She was passionate about things. She loved to have debates about things that meant a lot to her,” Coates said, emphasizing her daughter’s strong convictions and engagement with the world. Harrison worked for the fashion brand Boohoo at the time of her death.
Legal Challenges and Ongoing Investigation
The inquest has not been without its complications. Ana Samuel, representing Kris Harrison, requested that Coroner Jacqueline Devonish recuse herself from the case, alleging potential bias and suggesting the inquiry was being conducted more like a criminal investigation than a fact-finding mission.
However, Lois Norris, representing Coates, countered that the application was a deliberate tactic by Harrison’s legal team, pointing out that Harrison was the only individual present during the shooting. Coroner Devonish ultimately denied the request for recusal.
The inquest is expected to conclude on Tuesday, with investigators continuing to piece together the events that led to this tragic outcome.
