Luke Littler Misses Players Championship Due to Traffic Delay

A frustrating travel snag has sidelined darts sensation Luke Littler from Wednesday’s Players Championship event in Wigan, jeopardizing his qualification prospects for the season-ending Players Championship finals. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) confirmed that the world No. 2 player failed to meet the 11 a.m. registration deadline after becoming stuck in traffic.

Littler, known as ‘The Nuke,’ reacted to the news with characteristic humor on social media, posting, “Back to bed it is. Wonder who they are gonna call up.”

These Wednesday and Thursday events represent the final opportunities for players to secure a place among the top 64 in the Players Championship Order of Merit, earning them a coveted spot in the Players Championship finals in Minehead next month. Littler’s participation was crucial as he previously faced uncertainty regarding qualification, but a victory in Players Championship 32 earlier this month significantly boosted his chances.

Despite this setback, 2025 has been a remarkably successful year for the young darts star. He has already claimed victory in the World Championship, UK Open, World Matchplay, and the Grand Slam of Darts. However, his recent form has shown some vulnerability, as he was eliminated from the European Championship in Dortmund last week by James Wade.

The missed registration deadline adds another layer of complexity to Littler’s quest to maintain his position among the elite players. The PDC has not yet announced who will take Littler’s place in the tournament.

The outcome of the remaining Players Championship events will be closely watched by fans and competitors alike, as the stakes for qualification to the Minehead finals remain high.
