Lula’s government announced that it will support South Africa’s complaint to the UN International Court of Justice to investigate the accusation that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The African country’s measure was presented to the Tribunal, better known as the Court of The Hague, on January 29.
The document accuses the Jewish State of violating the International Convention against Genocide, according to which the term can be defined by five practices:
1) kill members of a particular national, ethnic, racial or religious group;
2) cause serious physical or mental harm;
3) inflict living conditions on them that destroy their ability to survive;
4) prevent its reproduction;
5) forcibly transfer children from that group to another place.
“In the face of flagrant violations of international humanitarian law, the president expressed his support for South Africa’s initiative to take the International Court of Justice to determine that Israel immediately cease all acts and measures that may constitute genocide or related crimes,” it reads. the statement from the Brazilian government.
