Luxembourg 2-0: Živživadze sent them to the final of the playoffs

Georgia defeated Luxembourg 2-0 in Tbilisi and await Greece in the final of the playoffs leading to Euro 2024.

Georgia found two goals through Budu Živživadze and subdued Luxembourg 2-0 in Tbilisi, thereby progressing to the final of the third playoffs of Euro 2024, where they await Greece.

Willy Saniol’s team (who played without the suspended Hvitsa Kvaratshelia) were superior for most of the match, shut down their opponents on their pitch and from the first minutes looked for the goal that would pave the way for qualification.

In the 13th minute Živživadze warned with a crossbar after a wonderful 1-2 with Giorgi Tsakvetze and in the 22nd minute he sent the ball into the net, having earlier committed an offensive foul on Anthony Morris.

In the end, the Georgians’ chances ended in Zivzivatze’s goal in the 40th minute following a corner, with the Luxembourg defense leaving him alone to score from the small area.

The 2nd part started with a completely different picture. Leandro Barreiro had the visitors’ first goal in the 51st minute with Giorgi Mamardashvili making a difficult save, and seven minutes later Zerson Rodríguez’s superb move into the area sent the ball into the Georgia net.

The phase was turned back for control, since in the attack of the home team that preceded it, Maxime Chanot had overturned Georges Mikoutatze who was entering the area. The final… verdict was a red for the Luxembourg defender and a foul, with Levan Sengelia sending the ball onto the post.

With a man up, the momentum shifted and Georgia found a second goal in the 63rd minute through Živživadze, who was again unmarked by the visitors’ defence.

2-0 was impossible to overturn (although Luxembourg played bravely afterwards), with Saniol gradually withdrawing the match’s protagonists, to be rested for Tuesday’s final at the same ground, where Georgia are looking to qualify for first time in the final phase of a major event.
