The incident, which occurred on May 24, 2022, resulted in serious injuries to four individuals and hospitalization for six overall.

Reckless Driving Leads to Lengthy Sentence

Superior Court Justice David Cruise handed down a 17-year sentence to Cary Guy, age 33, wiht 10 years to serve at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) and seven years of probation. The sentence also includes mandatory alcohol counseling and treatment,as well as a six-year revocation of his driver’s license upon release. Guy previously entered a plea of nolo contendere to multiple charges, including four counts of driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury, four counts of driving to endanger resulting in serious bodily injury, and two counts of driving to endanger resulting in physical injury.

“Driving under the influence is a crime that is as reckless as it is entirely avoidable,” stated Attorney General Peter F. Neronha. “When this defendant drove drunk, he endangered the lives of everyone on the road that evening, including the six victims that he sent to the hospital for serious injuries. There is no excuse for this type of behavior, and my Office will continue to hold accountable those who threaten the lives of others by driving impaired.”

Did you know? – A nolo contendere plea means the defendant doesn’t admit guilt but accepts punishment, preventing use of the plea as admission in a civil case.
