MacIntyre Shares Lead at Alfred Dunhill Links Championship After Weather-Disrupted Round

The European Ryder Cup team’s momentum continues, as Robert MacIntyre and Richard Sterne are tied for the lead at 12 under par after a challenging second round of the 2025 Alfred dunhill links Championship. MacIntyre, buoyed by consecutive rounds of 66 at Carnoustie Golf Links and Kingsbarns Golf Links, will play his third round on the famed Old Course at St.Andrews before a cut is made after 54 holes.

Did you know? – The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is unique in that it’s played across three iconic Scottish links courses: St. Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns. Each course presents a distinct challenge too the field.

European Ryder Cup Success Translates to Individual Form

Just one week removed from a victorious performance at the 2025 Ryder Cup, several European players are demonstrating their continued strong form on the links courses of Scotland. MacIntyre, in particular, appears to be riding a wave of confidence. “It was almost a perfect round of golf, especially once the weather came in, just lovely round,” MacIntyre stated, reflecting on his notable performance despite difficult conditions.

The second round presented meaningful challenges, with whipping winds and persistent rain causing a temporary stoppage of play. However, MacIntyre navigated the conditions with remarkable composure. A fast start to his front nine at Kingsbarns saw him record three birdies in the first four holes, followed by a steady string of pars to complete the nine.

MacIntyre’s Consistency Key to Success

The challenging weather persisted, but MacIntyre remained unfazed. He traded a birdie and a bogey on the first two holes of his round, then rallied with three more birdies on his back nine, matching his opening 33. A birdie on the par-5 9th ultimately secured his share of the lead, putting him one stroke ahead of Louis Oosthuizen. “Just golfed the ball really well,” MacIntyre explained. “Thought I controlled my flights really well. it’s difficult when it gets this windy. It’s hard to hit the ball good with the wind. So I was having to try and fight the wind on certain holes and wasn’t comfortable. But I made some stunning shots. Yeah, putted solidly in the wind.”

Fitzpatrick, Hatton, and Fleetwood also in Contention

MacIntyre isn’t the onyl member of the Ryder Cup-winning team in contention. Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick, a former tournament winner, is four strokes behind his teammate after rounds of 67 and 69 at Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, demonstrating his consistent play. Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood are also well-positioned, sitting one stroke further back at 7 under.

Though, the tournament has seen its share of dramatic shifts. Two-time

Pro tip: – When playing in windy conditions, focus on controlling ball flight. Lower shots are less affected by the wind, but require precise club selection and swing adjustments.

Major champion Francesco Molinari struggled on Friday, carding a 75 at Carnoustie. Meanwhile, American John Daly, playing on a sponsor’s exemption, found himself near the bottom of the leaderboard after a triple bogey-8 on his final hole.

The final round promises to be a thrilling contest as the remaining field returns to the Old Course at St. Andrews, where the historic course will undoubtedly provide a stern test for all competitors.
