Tragic Loss: Timbaland & Magoo Rapper Magoo Passes Away at 50

In a devastating turn of events, Magoo, best known for his work as one half of the iconic duo Timbaland & Magoo, has reportedly passed away. The news of his untimely death has left the music industry and fans in shock as the rapper was only 50 years old.

Digital Black, a member of the group Playa, was the first to pay tribute to the late rapper on Sunday (August 13). He took to his Instagram page to share his heartfelt condolences, writing, “Man can’t believe this RIP Magoo damn big bro wasn’t ready for this at all #superfriends.”

Ginuwine, another prominent figure in the music scene, also appeared to pay tribute to Magoo. Taking to social media, he wrote, “Times get rough but we keep on pushing. Just heard some news, I hope it ain’t true… I just want everyone to know that time is short, love who you love and make sure they know it.”

Magoo, whose real name was Melvin Barcliff, was a native of Norfolk, VA. He was a pivotal part of Timbaland & Magoo’s success. The rap duo initially formed in 1989 when they were teenagers and went on to release three albums together. However, they were best known for their collaboration with the legendary Missy Elliott.

Most notably, their single “Up Jumps Da Boogie” gained massive popularity. The song became a fan favorite and showcased the duo’s undeniable talent. Their contribution to the music industry was acknowledged in 2021 when Blackground Records and Empire Distribution re-released the entire Timbaland & Magoo catalog, including Timbaland’s album “Tim’s Bio: Life from the Basement.”

Despite a successful career, Magoo faced criticism throughout his journey. In May 2020, a Twitter user controversially labeled him as the “worst rapper to ever exist” while sharing a clip of Magoo’s verse from the 1997 hit “Luv 2 Luv U.” However, many supporters were quick to defend the rapper, highlighting his skills and applauding his contributions to the rap game.

The cause of Magoo’s death has not yet been disclosed, and neither his family nor Timbaland has released an official statement. The music industry mourns the loss of an influential figure, and HipHopDX extends its deepest condolences to Magoo’s family and friends during this difficult time.
