Mamata Banerjee’s Plan to Form Coalition of Regional Parties at National Level

New Delhi ∙ Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has shaken the India front in Bengal and reacted harshly against the Congress, is hinting that she is moving to form a coalition of regional parties at the national level. Mamata said that she will gain power at the center by consolidating local parties.

Mamata, who arrived in Delhi to attend a meeting called by the central government regarding the consolidation of Lok Sabha and assembly elections, may hold talks with local party leaders today. Mamata’s argument is that strong regional parties should fight valiantly in each state, just as she is fighting the BJP in Bengal.

At the same time, Mamata’s plan to topple the BJP if the regional parties win maximum seats cannot be implemented without the Congress. Even if all the regional parties in the opposition put up a good performance, they will need the help of the Congress to hold on to power. The opposition front will become a reality only if the Congress wins at least 100-120 seats.

Although Mamata is clearly aware of this, Congress sources say that in the context of the war in Bengal, she is making moves aimed at attacking them as much as possible at the national level. Congress believes that only Sonia Gandhi can resolve the issues between Congress and Trinamool amicably.
