Man Arrested for Stabbing EMT in Manhattan

MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) — A man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) on Wednesday night in Manhattan. Rudy Garcia, 48, was apprehended at 94th Street and Amsterdam at around 8:50 p.m. following a call about cardiac arrest.
The incident occurred when the ambulance was on 59th Street. Garcia reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 25-year-old EMT multiple times in the abdomen and leg. Fortunately, the EMT is expected to survive.
Disturbing cell phone footage captured the aftermath of the attack, showing emergency workers gathered around the injured EMT. An officer is seen picking up what appears to be the knife used in the stabbing.
The EMT was initially treated at Mount Sinai West and later transferred to Mount Sinai Morningside for further medical attention. Witnesses expressed shock at the incident, stating, “It’s hard to think that someone that is the EMT is going to be hurt in the ambulance. It’s so difficult to understand.”
Rudy Garcia has been arrested and is now facing three counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities revealed that Garcia is no stranger to law enforcement as he has previously been arrested for similar charges, including robbery and drug-related offenses.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, with authorities working diligently to gather all relevant information surrounding the attack.
