A 34-year-old man is in custody after a night of violence on the Gold Coast left an 18-year-old critically injured and a 27-year-old woman with minor wounds. The alleged attacker now faces multiple charges, including grievous bodily harm and assaulting a police officer.

The incident unfolded on Thursday evening, around 10:40 p.m., when a pedestrian discovered an unconscious 18-year-old man on Christine Avenue in Varsity Lakes. The young man sustained serious head injuries and was immediately transported to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
According to police reports, the 34-year-old suspect was located nearby at the scene. The situation escalated further when a 27-year-old woman, acting as a Good Samaritan, contacted emergency services to report the initial assault. Authorities state the suspect then turned on the woman, attacking her before being apprehended by responding officers. She was also treated at Gold Coast University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Charges Filed and Court Appearance
The suspect, a resident of Moggill in Brisbane, has been formally charged with grievous bodily harm, serious assault of a police officer, and common assault. During his arrest, he allegedly spat on officers, leading to the additional charge. He is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates’ Court today to face these accusations.
