Man involved in crash that killed teen turns himself in to police

Man involved in a traffic accident that killed motorcyclist Rafael Batista dos Santos, 27, presented himself at the police station this Saturday morning (8), after fleeing the scene this Friday afternoon. The collision occurred at the intersection of Monte Alegre and Dom João VI streets, in Jardim Ouro Verde, in Dourados, 251 kilometers from Campo Grande.

According to information on the Dourados News website, the driver of the Chevrolet S-10 van arrived at Depac (Community Emergency Service Police Station) Dourados, accompanied by a lawyer.

According to the man’s defense, he fled the scene of the accident after feeling threatened by people who witnessed the collision. The lawyer also revealed that he was informed by the client that the motorcyclist ran a red light.

The dynamics of the accident is being investigated by the Civil Police. Images from security cameras installed in the region show that before the accident Rafael overtook a stopped vehicle.

Rafael was riding a Honda Biz motorcycle and hit the side of the S-10 truck, according to witnesses, the motorcyclist would have run the red light. The Samu (Mobile Emergency Service) team was called, but when they arrived at the scene, the boy was already dead.

Initial information is that the truck was following Rua Dom João VI towards Avenida Marcelino Pires, while the motorcyclist was following Rua Monte Alegre. With the impact of the crash, the helmet came off Rafael’s head, who was thrown and landed a few meters from the motorcycle. After the accident, the truck driver fled.
