Manchester United’s Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez, who has just returned from injury, will again be sidelined for eight weeks due to a knee injury, United said on Monday.

Manchester United said on its official website that the 26-year-old defender suffered a knee ligament injury during the 3-0 win over West Ham yesterday, Sunday, in the 23rd round of the English Premier League, and “it is expected that he will be absent from the field for at least eight weeks.”

Martinez left the field in the 71st minute injured after West Ham defender, Czech Vladimir Coufal, fell on him while trying to protect the ball, and Frenchman Raphael Varane took his place.

The Argentine international player, who injured his foot last September, returned to the field in mid-January after an absence that lasted four months, after leaving a big void in Manchester United’s defense.

United ranks sixth in the league with 38 points, 13 points behind leaders Liverpool.
