The President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, sent a message of unity and solidarity after the completion of the military parade in Athens for the anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821.

Dendias: Need to strengthen the Armed Forces

The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, referred to the morale of the Armed Forces, but also the need to strengthen them.

We honor the 203 years since the “start of the Revolution that led to the National Palgenesis. At the same time, however, we honor the hundreds of thousands of our compatriots who fell during these years so that our country could be free and proud. We also honor the Armed Forces, we are proud of what we saw today, of their morale, of the systems that support the outstanding human resources,” said Dendias.

He noted, however, that “in order to carry out their duty, they need support and this support comes with the implementation of the 2030 agenda. The biggest reform in the history of the Greek Armed Forces since the establishment of the new Greek state”.

Palmas: The revolution of 1821 turning point in European history

Also present at the parade was the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, Vassilis Palmas, who in his statement characterized the Greek revolution as the first successful national-liberation movement in Europe that led to the establishment of the independent Greek state.

“The Greek revolution of ’21 was a turning point in European history. Its result breathed the air of freedom and justice into the enslaved peoples, leading to the collapse of monarchical empires and the creation of nation states,” the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs said characteristically.
