Has the engine been tuned?
We have seen that cars running on CNG usually have slower power than petrol. Maruti has done a little tuning in the engine and gearbox in this Swift so that the shortcoming is not too noticeable. They have added a new (ID ECU) Independent Dual Electronic Control Unit. Also, Maruti engineers have revised this fuel injection system.
Does it get that much mileage?
Despite the weight gain, it’s this lack of power that helps the Swift’s high mileage. Yes, Maruti claims that the Swift CNG will deliver an ARAI mileage of 30.9 kmpl. We did not test drive the CNG variant of the Swift. However, its real-time mileage of around 28 km is a jackpot for customers! Tata Tiago has recorded ARAI mileage of 26.4 km and Grand i10 Nios 28.5 km. If this mileage is true, it will be the highest mileage hatchback in the market – Swift.
Has the suspension been tuned for CNG?
Apart from the engine, the extra CNG cylinder is added, so the cars equipped with the CNG kit weigh more than the regular petrol cars. Car companies make sure to tune the car’s suspension setup to correct it. Maruti has made the suspension set-up of this Swift a little soft to suit the ride and handling. You will definitely feel the difference between traveling in a normal Swift and traveling in this one.
Variants and Price!
It comes in 2 variants namely VXi and ZXi. The top model is the ZXi. Its on-road price in Chennai is not known. But, its Delhi ex-showroom price ranged from 7.77 lakh ex-showroom to 8.45 lakh for Swift CNG. Probably, it will cost around 80,000 to 90,000 more than regular Swift petrol. For example, the on-road price of the VXi model in Chennai is Rs.8.10 lakh. The VXi CNG model will be priced around 8.90 to 9.00 lakhs. ZXi has many features like touch screen, alloy wheel.
