New Delhi: Zomato is testing a special kind of delivery facility. This will allow customers to receive their orders faster by paying additional fees. This information has been given in media reports. The test of this priority delivery feature is currently going on in Bengaluru and Mumbai. Standard delivery to customers takes 21 minutes. On the contrary, in the new feature delivery will be done in 16 minutes. For this an additional payment of Rs 29 will have to be made. This additional charge will also be applicable on Zomato Gold members.

Apart from these changes, Zomato is currently reevaluating its intercity delivery service legends. It was introduced in 2022. The service is undergoing restructuring due to challenges related to delivery methods. In such a situation, any expansion plan has been put on hold for the time being. Zomato is also facing a lawsuit over unfulfilled promises related to Legends.

Zomato has increased platform fees

Zomato has increased its platform fees by 25 percent. With this the fee has become Rs 5 per order. This is a fixed fee that is charged on all orders. This increase was made just a week before Zomato announced its March quarter financial results.

The company started charging a platform fee of Rs 2 in August last year. It was later increased to Rs 3. In January the fee was increased once again to Rs 4 per order. This increase in fees will affect the customers of Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Lucknow. Zomato’s competitor Swiggy already charges a platform fee of Rs 5.

Apart from increasing the fees, Zomato has also temporarily stopped its inter-city food delivery service Intercity Legends. A message on the ‘Legends’ section of the Zomato app said, ‘Improvements are underway. Please stay tuned as we will be back to serve you soon.

How many orders does Zomato process?

Zomato processes around 85-90 crore orders every year. Adjusted revenue in the December quarter increased by 30 percent year-on-year. Recently, Zomato received a GST demand and penalty order of Rs 11.81 crore for the timeframe from July 2017 to March 2021. This order was issued by the Additional Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax, Gurugram. This has been divided into a GST demand of Rs 5.9 crore and a penalty of the same amount. This tax demand is related to the export services provided by Zomato to its foreign subsidiaries during the stipulated period.
