300 million allocation
Minister Douglas Devananda and Minister of State Kadar Mastan have held consultations with officials including the Jaffna District Governor, representatives of Farmers’ Union and representatives of traders in order to effectively operate this business center, which has been set up with 20 trading stations with a budget of around 300 million, to benefit farmers and people.
The projects of this economic center are planned to be carried out in 3 phases. As 2 construction projects have been completed, a discussion was held today regarding the implementation of the final work plans.
At that time, various projects including electricity and security were examined. Therefore, if this economic hub is opened for public use, tax-free purchases can be made through it, it has been reported.
Benefits to farmers
Therefore, it has been reported that local farmers, foreign farmers and various entrepreneurs can benefit.
First, the project to set up this economic center was started during the previous government.
In this situation, due to the change of government in the country, this special economic center was opened by Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was then the Prime Minister, on March 20th, and the memorial board was also removed.
However, it was shut down as it became unable to continue its operations.
Reopening
Since then, due to another change of government, now the Minister of State for Rural Economy, Khader Mastan, is planning to operate this economic center again.
It is also noteworthy that Mastan, who has come to Yaj today for his first visit after being sworn in as the Minister of State of the new government, has initiated discussions related to the program to resume the activities of the economic center.
