The Mavelikkara Punnamoo star murder case took a tragic turn as the accused, Srimahesh, committed suicide by jumping from a train at Shastamkota. This incident occurred as he was on his way back to Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail after his father was brought to the Alappuzha court. Last June 7, Srimahesh had killed his daughter, Nakshatra (6), with an ax at the Punnamudu elephant enclosure.
Following the murder of his daughter, the accused also killed his own mother. Srimahesh then attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat while in Mavelikkara sub-jail, resulting in serious injuries and admission to Vandanam Medical College.
On the 78th day after the incident, a charge sheet was filed by Police Inspector C. Sreejith before Mavelikara 1st Class Magistrate Court, stating that Srimahesh committed the murder after careful planning. It was revealed that the motive behind the murder stemmed from Srimahesh’s animosity over not being able to remarry after the death of his wife, as well as a failed engagement with a female civil police officer due to his abnormal behavior.
The charge sheet also indicated that Srimahesh had planned to kill the girl he was previously engaged to after murdering his daughter, with the assistance of someone who made an ax near his house.
The tragic turn of events in this murder case has shocked the community and shed light on the underlying issues and motives behind the heinous crime.
