Max Verstappen will continue with the 1

by time news

After consecrating himself as world champion in the 2021 season, Max Verstappen confirmed that he would leave behind his classic #33 and would go on to use the #1 that he had available to become champion.

Since the introduction of fixed numbers to Formula 1 in 2014, the only driver who can vary and use the #1 is the champion of the previous year, something that, since it was included, no one had claimed the right to use it.

However, that changed with the arrival of Verstappen, who saw #1 as a very big marketing opportunity.

Now and before the versions that indicated that he would return to #33 after repeating the title this year, the Dutchman will continue with the 1st Champion.

Max also confirmed that he will use it whenever possible, because he understands that it is the best number for a pilot.

“Yes, I will take it again next year. I think it is the best number that exists for a pilot”. I can always go back to number #33 if I am no longer a world champion. But, as long as I am world champion, I will use #1 every year”, affirmed the World Champion.
