Indonesia Launches Targeted immunization drive Following measles Cases in Sleman Regency
A proactive public health campaign is underway in the Pringwulung area of sleman Regency,Indonesia, aimed at bolstering immunization rates and preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.
Following the identification of measles cases among toddlers in Padukuhan Pringwulung, the Depok II Community Health Center’s Rapid Action Team (TGC) initiated a comprehensive socialization program on Monday,December 22,2025. The effort focuses on educating parents and caregivers about Diseases that Can Be Prevented by Immunization (PD3I) and the critical importance of timely vaccinations for young children.
The socialization event, held at RW 42 padukuhan Pringwulung Hall in Condongcatur Village, drew participation from key stakeholders including representatives from the DIY Health Service, the Sleman District Health Service, and local community leaders. Dr. RR. endang Sulistyowati, Head of the Depok II Community Health Center, was also in attendance, alongside Kapanewon Depok Social Services Staff, Kamituwa Condongcatur, local health cadres, and parents of toddlers.
The program commenced with a presentation detailing the scope of PD3I, delivered by Dr. Aurel. This was followed by a session led by Bernadeta Dewintasari, AMK, emphasizing the necessity of adhering too the recommended immunization schedule for complete protection. Beyond education, the TGC team is actively reviewing the Kartu Ibu dan anak (KIA) – Mother and Child Health Books – for each toddler to accurately assess immunization coverage within the Pringwulung area.
“The synergy of cadres and parents is the key to preventing Extraordinary Events (KLB) of Measles Rubella and other VPD,” stated Kamituwa Condongcatur, Al Thouvik Sofisalam, A.Md, highlighting the collaborative spirit driving the initiative. He further emphasized that this collective effort demonstrates a shared commitment to preventing future outbreaks.
Dr. RR. Endang Sulistyowati underscored the meaning of achieving complete basic immunization (UCI) coverage for all toddlers. “Optimal UCI coverage supports toddlers to stay healthy and avoid the negative impacts of VPD. Even if they are exposed at some point, toddlers who have been immunized usually only experience minimal symptoms and are not dangerous,” she explained.
to maximize accessibility, the Depok II Community Health Center has adjusted the immunization schedule. Originally slated for Thursday, December 25, 2025 – a public holiday – the complete immunization service will now be offered on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at the Gejayan Sub-public Health Center. This adjustment reflects the center’s dedication to removing barriers to care.
Surveillance data from the Depok II Community health Center, collected by Indah Putrianti,SKM,and coordinated by Midwife Tyas, has informed a targeted appeal to Pringwulung health cadres. They are actively encouraging mothers to utilize the Immunization Catch-up Program, designed to address incomplete immunization status resulting from delayed illness, missed appointments,or a lack of awareness. “This program is an effort to complete the incomplete immunization status of toddlers before they reach 60 months old,” Midwife Tyas clarified.
Concluding the event, Dukuh Pringwulung Sahid Fahrudin urged parents to consistently utilize posyandu services – integrated health posts – for regular monitoring of their children’s growth and progress, and to ensure timely immunizations.”The hope is that in the future no more PD3I cases will be found in Padukuhan Pringwulung and no outbreaks will occur,” he concluded, expressing optimism for a healthier future for the community.
