Mechaal finished seventh at the World Championships in Belgrade

Adel Mechaal had to settle for seventh place, far from the medals, in the final of the 3,000-meter World Indoor Championships in Belgrade. In a very strategic race, the Palamós player immediately took the lead with the Ethiopians Selemon Barega and Lamecha Girma and the Kenyans Daniel Ebenyo and Jacob Krop. Despite being a rather slow race, the pace has been picking up and Mechaal has not been able to keep up with the pace on the last two laps. The first four have escaped and Mechaal has also seen him overtake the British Mark Scott, who finished third, and the Moroccan Zouair Talbi. The two Ethiopians have won gold (7: 41.38) and silver medals. The Baix Empordà player came in seventh with a time of 7: 43.60, far from his personal best.
