Kiev needs to buy gas directly from Russia, because Ukraine already buys Russian gas, but through intermediaries and more expensive. This was stated on December 10 by the Head of the Political Council of the Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform – for Life” Viktor Medvedchuk.

According to him, the Ukrainian gas transportation system “will soon turn into a museum of scrap metal.” Medvedchuk wondered if transit decreases, where will Kiev buy gas.

“On the stock exchange in Dusseldorf? In Slovakia? And what about Slovakia – is it producing gas? Or Poland. Or Hungary, from which we no longer receive, because it already receives gas through the “Turkish Stream”, – quoted by the TV channel UkrLive.

As Medvedchuk added, the Ukrainian authorities are “fooling people” by saying that they do not buy gas from Russia.

“But this would change the situation … If we signed a direct contract at least in 2019, the gas price would be around $ 175. $ 175, not what is happening today! ” – added the politician.

He also pointed out that Ukraine may not survive the winter with high gas prices.

Since November 2015, Ukraine has stopped purchasing gas from Russia, and instead is pumping fuel purchased through reverse in Europe into storage facilities.

On December 8, Medvedchuk noted that under President Volodymyr Zelensky, the country plunged deeper into the economic crisis. By the end of the term of office of the head of state, Ukraine will roll back years, the politician added.

On November 15, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the party of former President Petro Poroshenko, “European Solidarity” Maria Ionova, said that the Ukrainian authorities were lying about buying coal from Russia. On October 20, the National Federation of Employers of Ukraine issued a statement, where it reported on the catastrophic situation in the country’s energy markets. The organization noted that in 2021 the cost of energy resources rose sharply and a situation developed when the price of gas for Ukrainian enterprises turned out to be four to five times higher than that of competitors.
