Moscow issued a stark warning Saturday: any deployment of international forces to Ukraine will be met with a renewed escalation of attacks, reminiscent of Friday’s strike on Kyiv. The threat came from Dmitry Medvedev, currently the Vice Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, who labeled European leaders “idiots” for considering such a move.

“The idiot rulers of Europe continue to want war in Europe,” Medvedev wrote on social media. His comments came after a meeting of the Coalition of Volunteers in Paris, where discussions centered on potential long-term security arrangements for Ukraine, including the possibility of forward operating bases for a multinational force. Moscow views this prospect as unacceptable.
“It has been said a thousand times: Russia will not accept European or NATO troops in Ukraine, but no, Micron continues to spread these pathetic nonsense,” Medvedev added. He then concluded with a chilling message: “Well, let them come. This is what awaits them,” accompanied by video footage of Friday’s bombing of Kyiv.
The attack on Kyiv, which occurred on Friday, utilized “Oreshnik” missiles – capable of carrying nuclear warheads – for only the second time since the conflict began in February 2022. The strike resulted in at least four fatalities and 20 injuries.
Moscow justified the attack as a response to what it described as a “terrorist attack” by Ukraine against President Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region on December 29, 2025. Ukraine has denied any involvement in such an incident, and former U.S. President Donald Trump has also publicly questioned the claim.
