Megawati‍ Invites Generation to Pay More ⁤Attention ​to Art in Indonesia

The Fifth President of‍ the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, addressed the younger generation to pay⁢ greater ​attention to art in Indonesia, amidst rapid​ modernization and ⁣technological advancements.

Megawati expressed this sentiment ‌after attending ⁤an art exhibition by Dolorosa Sinaga at Building A ​of the Indonesian National Gallery in Central Jakarta ⁣on Thursday (8/8).

The daughter of the‍ Proclaimer⁢ of Indonesian Independence, Soekarno or Bung‌ Karno,⁤ shared her admiration for the diverse​ forms of art in Indonesia.

Megawati ‌emphasized that her family played‌ a significant​ role in fostering a love for arts and culture ​in the country.

“We come from a family of ​artists, ⁣and my parents have always appreciated artists and cultural figures, not just art,” she said, in her capacity as ​the general chairman of PDI Perjuangan.

She‍ further argued that⁤ her appreciation ⁣for art and culture‌ is‍ a ​way of ‍respecting the ideas​ and thoughts of artists.

The Chairman of the‍ Board of Directors ‌of the ⁤Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) then encouraged the younger generation not ‍to neglect the rich diversity of arts⁢ and culture ⁤in Indonesia.

“Therefore, you should not shy away ‍from ‌culture and art. Modernization is important,⁢ but⁢ it would​ be ​better if you also learn ​about your own culture,” Megawati ​concluded.
