Meghan Markle Bankrupt? Harry Loses Millions to Nezdar

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix deal, worth $100 million, will not be extended after four years.

The documentary series featuring Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle is reportedly coming to an end, with their lucrative $100 million Netflix contract not being renewed. The decision stems from a perceived lack of interest and a shift in the streaming giant’s business strategy.

The couple announced their partnership with Netflix in September 2020, aiming to produce a range of content including documentaries, scripted shows, and children’s programming. However, the public reception to their ventures has been mixed.

Documentary series faced declining viewership

The initial offering was the documentary series Harry & Meghan, which garnered significant viewership in 2022. It offered a candid look into the couple’s private lives, their departure from royal duties, and their interactions with the British media.

While this series attracted considerable attention, subsequent projects did not fare as well. The lifestyle and recipe-focused program With Love, Meghan, which premiered in March, reportedly only reached 5.3 million households, a number considered not profitable for Netflix.

Another documentary, Polo, reportedly attracted only half a million viewers. These declining numbers are cited as the reason for Netflix’s decision not to extend the contract beyond September of this year. A source indicated to The Sun that the separation is amicable, stating, “There is no hostility on both sides. Things have just reached their natural end.”

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix contract, signed in September 2020, is not being renewed.
  • The decision follows a trend of declining viewership for their documentary projects.
  • While the Harry & Meghan series was popular, other shows like With Love, Meghan and Polo saw significantly lower viewership.
  • Netflix cited a lack of interest and a change in business strategy for the non-renewal.

Despite the contract non-renewal, Netflix’s relationship with the couple is not entirely severed. A second series of With Love, Meghan is slated for release in the fall of 2025, with its concept remaining unchanged. Ted Sarandos, head of the platform, confirmed in March that Netflix is a passive partner in Meghan’s company, viewing it as a new discovery model.
