Meghan Markle’s Royal Tour Discontent
Despite public perception, Meghan Markle reportedly “hated” aspects of her first royal tour with Prince Harry back in 2018.

- She allegedly complained about not being paid for the tour.

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, now 43, wasn’t thrilled with every aspect of royal life, even during her time as a working royal. Contrary to popular belief, the public’s positive view of her and Prince Harry’s first official royal tour may not have reflected her own feelings, as she reportedly found certain elements undesirable.
The 2018 Australian Tour
In October 2018, Meghan and Prince Harry, now 40, embarked on a two-week, state-funded trip to Australia, undertaking 76 royal engagements. While the Duchess appeared happy during the tour, royal expert Tina Brown claimed otherwise.
In her book, “Palace Papers,” Brown wrote that the Duchess “hated” every second of it. A former Palace employee shared that Meghan found the itinerary of engagements “pointless.”
Complaints About Pay
It wasn’t just the engagements that reportedly bothered Meghan. There were also reported complaints about compensation. In the book “Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown,” author Valentine Low wrote that Meghan didn’t understand the purpose of the walkabouts, where she shook hands with numerous strangers.
According to several staff members, she was heard saying, “I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this.”
