The Conservative Party calls for more information

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, the Conservative Party urged the Trudeau government on Monday to update its plan to curb the spread of the Omicron variant.

Among other things, Erin O’Toole’s troops are urging Ottawa to clarify the federal government’s ability to provide rapid screening tests to all provinces that need it and to detail the plan to provide booster doses as well as the date of next deliveries. The Conservative Party is also asking the government to specify the timetable for obtaining mRNA booster doses specific to the Omicron variant.

“As Canada continues to face an increase in cases and additional restrictions due to the Omicron variant, Canadians have even more questions about the fight against COVID-19. […] Today, the Conservatives are urging the Liberal government to provide an update before Christmas on the important steps we are taking to combat the Omicron variant, ”Conservative MP Luc Berthold said in a statement.

If the government is slow to provide these details, the Conservative Party is calling for an emergency meeting of the House of Commons health committee, asking the support of the Bloc Québécois and the New Democratic Party for such a meeting.

“Canadians are suffering because of the Liberal government’s confused and disturbing messages on COVID-19, and the answers to these questions will help reassure Canadians, who must have hope for the future,” said Luc Berthold.

In a message on his Twitter account, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reassured Canadians about the vaccine supply. “The fight is not over. We’re here for you and we’ll get through it. We have enough booster doses for adults and enough vaccines for children over 5 to get their first dose, and we are sending more rapid tests to the provinces and territories, ”he wrote.
